P910i Mini Review
Over the last 2 years I have been in aww over Sony Ericsson's P series phones. Ever since the P800 came out I have wanted one, but just never had a reason to get it. Well last week I finally laid down the cash to get my very own P910i.
I can't believe I waited this long to purchase it. Although I have only had the phone a few days I have to say it is a great device.
It has it all, Symbian OS, handwriting recognition, QWERTY Keyboard, Numeric Keypad, 265K color screen, digital/video camera, email, Internet, the list goes on.
The Symbian OS is a dream come true, for a cell phone OS. The ability to run multiple apps at the same time has been something I have wanted forever. We are all familiar with multitasking on our computers but on a mobile device it has been something only a few can do. Now I can keep my IM on, check my email, reference my calendar, and (not to mention) be on the phone all at the same time. An example of this was over the weekend when I was away from my computer, someone called, and I needed to look at an email they had sent me earlier in the day. With my T610 I would have had to end the call, open the email, read it, and then call the person back. But finally I was able to flip open the phone, navigate to my emails, and read it back to them all why they were on the phone.
I was a little skeptic at first about using the QWERTY Keyboard because of the way it is attached to the phone. In images it looks as if it would break off if you were to hold the phone by it, but it turns out the be very sturdy. I defiantly wouldn't want to write a blog entry, like this one, on it, but for SMS's, emails, adding contact / calendar information, or posting shorter posts it works out well. My one complaint with it would be the lack of navigation buttons (arrows). If you start typing and notice you made a mistake a few lines down you either have to delete all the way back, or pull out the stylus and type on the screen. True you already using two hands when typing on it, but having to stop to pull out the stylus slows things down. At first I thought I may end up taking it off (the tools / pieces you need to do this come in the box) but after using it for a few days I am defiantly leaving it on.
I haven't had a chance to play with the camera much, not really something that was a "must have" for me. But I plan on setting up Flickr on this site, so I am sure I will use it more then. The images are better then ones taken with my T68i and T610, but that is not saying much. One really cool thing, if you have a camera with a Memory Stick Duo, I do, is being able to take a hi-res image on your camera, put the memory stick into the phone, and email it without ever using a computer.
There are so many more features in this phone I could keep writing all night, but I doubt many of you are still reading this so I am cutting off. Basically if you have the cash and need a great mobile device, get yourself this phone. If you live in Atlanta hit me up because I know a guy that can get you a really good deal on one.
