Balance is Bunk
This last week has been really tuff. To start is off I had a cold that I battled for 3 days, I have had more on my mind lately then I care to comment about, and like always I have been extremely busy with work!
I have had so much going on that I have felt guilty to take the time out to even make a post. But I think from now on I am going to try and balance everything out a little more.
I enjoy what I am doing so much that I usually don't think about the uneven balance I have between work and everything else.
I have never considered working "work", but more as something I love to do. I am so grateful that I make my living doing something I am so passionate about. Because of this I typically put in around 50 hours a week at my job, then another 30-40 hours on freelance projects, and then try and squeeze in my own personal projects after that. Ever so often it takes it toll and I take a night off.
This was one of those weekends where I put it all down and just relaxed. I worked for a few hours on Sat and a little tonight but for the most part I kept it low key. The thing is I enjoy what I am doing so much that I usually don't think about the uneven balance I have between work and everything else. But the more I think about it the more I think it is a necessary "evil" and from now on I am going to try and save at least 1 full day every weekend and a few hours every night to get away from work.
Now why am I writing this all here, why do you care? Well for two reasons. One so I can look back and try to stick to this, and two because I think there are many others struggling with the same thing. So as you read this ask yourself is there an even balance in your life between work and personal things. If not what changes can you make to get it there?

I agree. It is great to work on something that you enjoy, but at the same time, it is neccesary at times to step back and look at the other things that you enjoy(ed) before computers came along. In my case, I used to be very active outdoors (now my tan is almost vampiric), I used to read for pleasure (not because I needed to figure out how to do something). It think that this is something that affects a great many people these days. It is almost as a culture that we have forgotten how to relax and just enjoy the simple pleasures of life (like being able to browse the internet on our new phone) (j.k.). We spend so much of our day plugged in that we feel lost when we are not.
Have your say
