As this year is coming to an end I realized I hadn't taken any of my vacation days from work. So instead of taking it all at once I decided to spread it out and give myself several extended weekends. This has been my 4th consecutive one, and while it probably would have been more enjoyable to take all my days off at once and gone somewhere, I must say I have really been enjoying the 4 day (in office) work week and the longer weekends.

Not because I have been enjoying the few extra hours of sleep, or that I haven't been working as much (cause honestly I have), but because I feel I am more productive working from home. Now I know most of you are probably thinking it is your "vacation" why are you working. But as most of you know the end of the year is a busy time, and although I have been off things still have to get done.

Most of the days I have put in a few hours in the morning, then got ready, ran to get lunch or do a few errands, and then came home and went back to work.

The thing is I have found that on these days I have gotten more done and put in just as many hours as I would have while in the office but just spread it out more. There is something about getting up, making a pot of coffee, visiting my morning sites / blogs, and putting in a few hours of work while still in my pajamas that make the day much more enjoyable. I think that most of this is due to the fact that there are fewer distractions when I am at home. Also when I begin to get blocked I can take a few minutes to take the dog out, grab a smoke, or just step away from the computer.

Now I am not sure that this would work the same for everyone, some people I know say they need an office to go to to be the most productive, but for me it worked out very well. Most of the days I have put in a few hours in the morning, then got ready, ran to get lunch or do a few errands, and then came home and went back to work. Unfortunately I only have a few more of these weekends left before it is a new year and back to the "normal" 5 day work weeks.

I have to say I am very envious of those of you who get to telecommute everyday, or at least a few days a week!
