SXSW Day 3
Its too late and my bed is looking too good to go into a post as long/detailed as I did yesterday, but I wanted to give you a brief run down of todays events.
The morning started off great with Todd Sanders's panel on How to Design Flash for Mobile Devices. It was basically an overview of Flash Lite and the things it is capable of, so nothing new here. But I got to meet and hang out with Todd both after the panel and later on in the day so that was a big plus. The highlight for me was the mention and demo of the SXSW Interactive Conference Guide in his panel. I was honored to have even been mentioned and more so to have it shown to the entire audience.
Following that was How to be Beautiful: More Hi-Fi with CSS by Christopher Schmitt, Molly Holzschlag, Douglas Bowman, Dan Cederhold and Dave Shea. As the title says the panel was based around beautiful design with CSS. At the end of Douglas Bowman's presentation was a quote that probably stuck with me the most:
"Beauty in design is not only that which appeals to the eye, but that which appeals to individuals with no eyes"
After lunch was Malcolm Gladwell's Keynote which was defiantly the best panel of the day. I was also able to get my copy of Blink signed by Mr. Gladwell himself! He is currently on a book tour throughout the US, and will be making a stop in Atlanta, check his site for dates, so if you can make sure to catch it.
There were some really great speakers in the afternoon hours talking on Web Standards, Accessibility, and extending XHTML. But the big thing for me was making the Austin evening news showcasing the SXSW Interactive Conference guide and talking briefly on Flash Lite and the SXSW conference in general. I was unable to catch the airing of this due to the Web Awards show, but if you happened to catch it and have it Tivoed please let me know!
Again sorry for the short post, and please forgive me if it is just one big run-on sentence. I will try to go back and edit it tomorrow when I am less tired and more sober :)
