Homeowner...
...Almost! Another thing that has been consuming a lot of my time the past month or so has been house hunting.
When I began to look I didn't think I had that many "must haves" in a home I wanted to buy: recently construction, 3+ bedrooms, hardwoods(not throughout the entire house but at least in a few rooms), stainless steal appliances, and a stand up shower, so I figured it shouldn't be too hard to find something I would be happy with. Boy was I wrong.
I originally started searching in Vinings. This is where I currently live, and I really enjoy that I am within a short drive (usually without traffic) to everything I enjoy (friends, shopping, restaurants, Atlanta, my job, etc..) and I figured I would get a little "more" home, for the money, then I would downtown. Thing is one of my "must haves" in a home was that it was built within the last 5-7 years, and every house in Vinings built within this timeframe was WAY more then I wanted to spend.
I then decided a townhouse might be a good fit, I wouldn't have all the maintenance that would be required in a home, they are going up all over the place in this area, and they had most (if not all) of my "must haves". Only thing was I really wanted a yard, and after totaling the P+I, PMI, HOA fees, and everything else that goes into your monthly payment I was certain I could find a traditional house for what I would have been paying for a townhouse.
I finally decided to get with a Real Estate Agent, Randy Brazee. And after looking at homes until they all started to look the same I finally narrowed it down to two neighborhoods. After weighting the options of both I made a decision to go with a home at Sattlebrook Creek in Syrmna, GA. It is a new development and thus I am having to wait while my home is being built. The nice part was being able to pick and choose every option and custom the house to exactly what I was wanting. While this was very exciting it was also very draining (have you ever tried to pick grout and mortar colors? do you know how many options you have in a tile back-splash? how many colors hardwood floors come in? I didn't).
They say it should be ready in late October, or early November but everyone I speak with say it usually take around a month longer then the builder estimates so I am hoping for a late November move in! If you care to see the progress of the house being built I will be posting pics here.
While buying my first home was a big step for me I would like to thank Randy and John of Homes For Atlanta for making it very enjoyable and as stress-less as possible!
